Jessie is resentful towards her mom, but understanding the background, you will see that she is justified and eventually she makes amends. Jessie's mom becomes worried about Jessie and the debt and asks Chase to look after Jessie. Her dad passed away leaving Jessie's mom as her guardian (though they havent seen each other in years) and a huge debt behind. Jessie's parents were divorced and she lived with her dad in the ranch.
